Paris: Day Two

My breakfast. Dad sad it looked pretty...

Eiffel Tower

View of Sacré-Cœur Basilica on the hillside

I quite liked how everything in Paris seems to line up. See the classic buildings in the foreground and the new shiny buildings in the business district.

Another view from the Eiffel Tower, look at all those tour buses hehe!

Day two of our Parisian adventure did not get off to the best of starts. Okay, it was pretty much a disaster. Firstly, my phone and iPad had adapted to the time difference and I, not using my head, forgot that they adapted because they were connected to the internet. Henceforth when I set my alarm on my iPod it woke us up an hour later than our plans had allowed. After a rushed getting ready/breakfast session we hurried to the metro and made our way towards the Eiffel Tower.

When we got off the train and tried to exit the station we noticed a little girl panicking and trying to get back on the train. After a moment of looking around we realised that her family was still on the tube. As the tube rode off the little girl started to cry (understandably, she can't have been older than eight) and started looking around for another train. We stopped her and sat her down, thinking if we kept her in one place her family would make their way back to her. We then tried to comfort her, but as we couldn't work out which country she was from this became rather problematic. After about twenty minutes the girls parents and little brother flew off a train and came to collect the girl. There were a LOT of tears and hugs and hand shakes.

By this point my dad was a bit miffed as he did not want to queue for hours at the Eiffel tower, but we needn't have worried as the queue only lasted about 25 minutes. This was a very exciting moment for me and I had a lot of fun and took a LOT of photos as we took in the views. We then took a leisurely stroll (well, a slow stroll, because my feet were killing again by this point) towards the arc de triumph. After a quick look around we walked down the Champ-Élysées and popped in and out of a few shops. We walked back past Concord and looked around a few more shops (including Decathlon- boring me to tears) before heading back to the hotel for a rest and some snacks.

That evening we headed out to Galeries Lafayette and looked around the beautiful store. We also went up to the roof where there is a little garden and you can take in breath-taking views of Paris. Afterwards we headed back down Boulevard Haussmann and had dinner at the Hard Rock Café. On a side note, this was my first time going to the restaurant chain and I just didn't get it? It was very loud and the food was just okay. Am I missing something? After dinner we popped into an Häagen Dazs ice cream emporium and I nibbled on a chocolate cone on the way back to the hotel.
That's it for day two, day three will be up soon and provides a look at our trip to Versailles!
