[Instagram] Reflections on 2014

So I wanted to write a  post reflecting on the past year, but upon reflection, this year has been pretty damn awful. Full of anxiety, depression, stress, funerals, illness and buckets of tears. Which, if truth be told, would not be the most uplifting of all things for me to write, or you to read. As I was scrolling through instagram the other day, I had a thought. Instead, I could show my year through my favourite snaps on instagram, safe in terms of the fact I wouldn't have overshared on that platform, plus it is likely to be good for quite a few laughs. So, without rattling on much more, here is a reflection of my year, as exemplified through the filtered-goodness of instagram, Enjoy, and see you in 2015!

Selfies

So, I think what defines this year on instagram is my acceptance of the selfie. And then becoming obsessed with the selfie.

As you can see, and, I must confess, have only realised whilst compiling this collection, is that I have a 'selfie stlye'  *cough, cough, I hate myself, cough, cough*

An over-exposed face and big eyes seems to be my go-to for some reason.

I'm also quite the advocate for gauging responses to various lip colours through my selfies :')

Ah, these are the 'library selfies'. This year, I spent obscenely long periods of time in the university library's, resulting in some rather interesting expressions in my photos...

And of course, we can't forget the selfie which for some unknown reason ended up everywhere.

[What really worries me is that this is not all my selfies from 2014....]

The 'My-Mother-Brought-Me-A-Juicer-And-I-Will-Show-You-Everything-I-Ever-Make-With-It' Phase...

Basically on January 1st my mother presented me with a juicer, and if my instagram were to be believed, it changed my entire world.

Kitchen Escapades

The juicer led the way for the rest of my food-related posts, as unfortunately I appear to be one of those people who snap anything and everything they can and soon will digest.

From my mothers roast dinners to a professional afternoon tea....

... to the obligatory starbucks shot...

... the butterbeer mustache shot...

...to my own culinary adventures...

(some of which were more successful than others)

... if I ate it, I probably snapped it too.

The BBlogger/FBlogger

I made a really attempt at being a proper blogger this year.

Well Travelled Illusion

This summer, I spent a weekend in London and a weekend in Paris. Naturally, these were all over my insta.

Welcome to the family.

This year, our family grew by two. My dad got a pointer puppy named Lola, and this christmas I got a pygmy hedgehog, yes a hedgehog, you read that right, called Wilbur. I couldn't resist showing them off online.

Miss Photographer

My wish to be a photographer becomes more and more evident throughout the year. Especially when I managed to turn a trip with Ellie to the garden centre into a nature shoot.

Absence of Ellie

There was a definitive absence in my feed of my best friend Ellie. We've been best friends for fifteen years, but now we're at different universities. We still talk all the time, but physically hanging out has been massively limited. Poppet, if your reading this, I got a lot of love for you x

To finish, I just wanted to share one more photo. This may seem like a weird one, perhaps because it is, but its quite important to me. This is a photo my friend Rushna took of me a few weeks ago. We're in the library, hysterically trying to finish our respective assignments the day before the deadline, despite having spent the last week working on them solidly. In a moment of procrastinattion, I asked Rusha to take a photo of me because I wanted to see how my hair looked (I was trying something out). I don't remember what happened to make me laugh like this, but it warms my heart that it happened.

I'll end this reflection here, along with a rather over-used and corny quote, which I still find supremely relevant:

Happiness can be found even in the darkest times if one only remembers to turn on the light.
