The Annual NaNoWriMo Warning

If you've been following me less than a year, which I suspect the majority of those reading have been, you may not be aware of the way my life changes in November. After warning you this time last year, I felt it was only fair to remind/educate once again.
NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month, an initiative in which hundreds of thousands of insane people attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November. That equates to 1,667 words a day, which in itself is an enormous challenge. However, add onto the fact that most people have jobs, classes- you know, lives, then it becomes a little ridiculous. But absolutely amazing.
I first signed up when I was thirteen years old, and last year, for the first time, I finally won (ie. wrote 50,000 words). As I gushed last December, I was enormously proud of this achievement. Especially as I managed to maintain a first in my studies and keep up to date with the blog. I like to refer to last November as that time I became wonder woman.
Over the past week I've resumed my planning with the enthusiasm only one who has forgotten previous pain can muster. At present I have plans for both a sequel and book three, and my mood currently is ALL about the writing.
This little widget below will show you how I'm progressing, and you'll be able to find it in the right sidebar everytime you come on the blog. If you want to study more fancy graphs, which I obsess over this month, then you can look at my official NaNo page here.
Ensure you're following my twitter and snapchat (sophiemnewbold) for what I'm sure will a hysterical (to an outsider) view of my gradual breakdown.
See you on the other side...

Colours of the [Autumn] Wind

I took these photo's about a month back and they ended up lost in a huge file of bits and pieces. I've just found them and had to share my favourites with you. These are completely unedited, straight from the camera shots and the colours are simply insane! Autumn will forever be the most beautiful season <3

MAC False Lashes Mascara Review

It's review time! On my last trip to MAC (which was actually about a month ago which shows enormous restraint on my part) the MUA popped a little sample packet in my bag. Inside was a tester size of MAC's False Lashes Extreme Black Mascara.
I'm blessed to have fairly long lashes, meaning that I don't need to get those super lengthening ones. They curl quite nicely too, so I don't have to faff around with curlers each morning (yey). The problem area, if I had to be pedantic and pick one, would be how light the lashes are compared to my fairly dark features.
MAC claim that the mascara 'saturates lashes in the deepest, darkest, richest black imaginable'. Whilst someone might have got a little carried away with the description writing, I do think the formula gives a very dark finish. In the photo's above I applied one coat, and I think that's enough to give definition to the eye. Obviously more coats would make the lashes darker, thicker and perhaps longer, but I quite like the look I achieved here.
At £19, its not exactly cheap, but it's one of those products that you can rely on when you need it.
MAC False Lashes Extreme Black is available here.

P.S. Forgive the state of my brows, I'm growing them out a bit and maintaining them is becoming a waking nightmare.

Lions in London

One of Chester's birthday presents this year were tickets to see The Lion King inn London's West End. I was allowed to go too (yey) which was very exciting for me. Obviously I'm one of the biggest Disney fans out there, and I adore the theatre too. But I remember going to the Lion King ten years ago with my school and finding it utterly magical, so I felt very nostalgic returning so many years later. We had a little walk around the city centre and took a few photo's I thought I'd share with you. I'm still vlogging every day in October, so I've popped Saturday's vlog below if that interests you at all!
Thanks for reading, see you soon

I really struggled titling this post. This is a 'wet look', but you've really got to be careful writing that kind of thing on the internet. I'm quite afraid of what the ads might be on this post...
Anyway, this is a look I played around with the other week. Naturally wet hair with a healthy helping of MAC's eye gloss on the eyes and lips to create the illusion of fluidity. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

YSL Rouge Volupt Shine Review

Before I say anything about the product itself, I would like to inform you that shooting these images has caused me to have a complex about my hands. Never before have I realised how massive and ugly they are and its just generally quite upsetting. Moving on...

I purchased this lipstick on the way home from Paris last year. I was looking for a deep rose shade, and fell in love when I swatched this in duty free.
The packaging is stunning obviously, it is YSL we're talking about. A large part of me was seduced by the beauty of the gold embellishments. But the product itself is great too!

The product is fairly pigmented and you only need one coat. In the photo above I swatched the lipstick once at the top of my hand, and then did two strokes below. As you can see, there's virtually no difference. Hence its pretty hard to layer up the colour if that's what you wanted to do, although if you've lined your lips already you really wouldn't need to.

The Rouge Volupte Shine range has an 'intense... wet-looking shine' that the regular Rouge Volupte range doesn't have. This shine is achieved by combining candelilla wax with silicon oils, creating a 'shiny film coating that enhances the colour'. The lipstick contains tiny flecks of glitter contributing to the shine.

Its good for your lips too, with ingredients that moisturise and protect lips.
YSL claims that the lipstick won't smudge and will stay put for hours. To be honest I'm not sure about the smudging, as the lipstick is wet to touch when on the lips. However I can confirm that this lasts for hours and doesn't budge. After taking photo's of the above swatches I tried to remove the product with a makeup remover wipe. The product had sort of stained/sunk into the skin so it took me a little scrubbing to get rid of it!

This lipstick is on the pricey side, but I feel that it is worth the money. It feels luxurious on your lips, and I feel confident in its staying power.
I really do love this lipstick, I must reach for it more instead of my beloved MAC's all the time.

YSL's Rouge Volupte Shine in number 17, available here.

PFW SS16 Highlights

How exhausting is fashion month? As a blogger I could hardly keep up, so I can't imagine what it must be like for the models, MUA's, stylists etc. As this seasons shows draw to a close, my favourites are clear. As usual, I loved loads of the shows in Milan, but I actually really enjoyed New York this year too. Here's a few of the best looks from the last stint in Paris. Until next season fashion week!
